Fluoride Treatments

What is a Fluoride Treatment?

A fluoride treatment is a dental procedure, designed to strengthen tooth enamel. It’s typically applied directly on the teeth in the form of a varnish.

Fluoride is designed for patients who have a history of:

  • Dry mouth (xerostomia)
  • Cavities/ history of restorations (fillings/crowns)
  • Poor oral care
  • Eating disorders such as bulimia, anorexia
  • If you live in a home that uses well water or non-fluoridated water
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Sjogrens Syndrome or patients with history of radiation treatments

Who would benefit from a fluoride treatment?

Children and adults should be exposed to fluoride treatments to prevent tooth decay and to help strengthen teeth. It is recommended for ages two and older.

What to expect from a Fluoride treatment?

  • Fluoride is applied directly on the tooth surface after the cleaning. It takes less than a minute to apply.
  • Eating and drinking after your dental appointment is fine. However, it is recommended to avoid hard/crunchy foods or hot beverages/products up to four hours after the fluoride application.
  • Do not floss/brush your teeth until bedtime to receive maximum benefits.
