Oral Cancer and Preventative Screenings
One Screening Every 6 Months
Oral Cancer Screenings are completed by Dr. Tom at each six month exam. He will look for signs of oral cancer which typically is found on the sides of the tongue, under the tongue of on the floor of the mouth. If anything out of the ordinary is discovered, a referral to an oral surgeon is recommended where they will biopsy the suspicious tissues.
Oral cancer is common found in those who use tobacco, drink alcohol, has been linked to HPV (Human Papillomavirus) but is not limited to these factors. There is no age limit for this cancer but is more commonly found in older adults.
