How is Oral Cancer Screened and Diagnosed?

As all of our routine cleanings at Sardina Dental Group an Oral Cancer screening is performed. Gauze is used to wrap around your tongue and a visual exam is done of all sides of the tongue, cheeks, and lips, floor of mouth, hard palate, soft palate, throat and neck. If anything suspicious is found then a referral to an Oral Surgeon or a biopsy is done immediately. The biopsy is a painless procedure that takes cells from the problem area and we send them to a lab to be analyzed.
